Youth Suicide Assessment & Intervention for Mental Health Professionals

This presentation will teach mental health professionals the most recent information on identifying suicidal risk in youth. The presentation will introduce the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide that will help mental health professional to gain a more helpful understanding of suicidal behavior. Risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors of suicide will be reviewed. The main focus of the presentation is on learning to do a complete risk assessment and to learn to create a safety plan for clients at risk for suicide. This is an interactive presentation that will allow attendees to learn about suicidality in youth but also to explore their own attitudes and understanding of suicide and suicidal behavior.
Cristina Rita has developed and presented workshops on Suicide Assessment and Intervention geared for parents, teachers, and mental health professionals and for the general public. She has developed workshops on Bullying, Cyber bullying and our Youth, Crisis Response in an Educational Environment,Improving the Mental Health of Older Adults, Adolescent Non-Suicidal Self-Injury and Working with Grieving Clients. She has presented Working with The Mentally Ill on a Crisis Line at the annual American Association of Suicidology Conference. She is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and is a certified Psychological Autopsy Investigator.
