Understanding the Emotional Issues Associated with Parenting a Special Needs Child

Speaker: Linda Wurzbach
When: Friday, April 1, 2016
Time: 12:30 – 2:00pm

This workshop will help professionals better understand the “grieving process” when parents discover that their child has special needs.  Parents may experience “the death of a dream” when the expected normal child turns out to be significantly different in a way that requires special education and/or medical attention.

Ms. Wurzbach has been an advocate for children with special education needs for thirty years.  She taught Special Education Law at St. Mary’s college for 17 years and worked for the California Department of Special Education for eight years.  Ms. Wurzbach has provided workshops throughout California helping families and school districts collaborate and develop appropriate IEPs. She has specialized in helping families understand the emotional issues associated when parenting a child with special needs.
